If you look at your average stapling maching, the silver part which go under the paper you're stapling has two impressions in it. Most people use the impression that make both ends of the staples curl inward... Well if you spin around the metallic bit you can use the other part which makes both ends bend outwards... but my question is.

what is the use of the other pattern? there must be some reason why all standard staplers have both styles?

If you use the impressions that route the staple ends outward, it's easier to remove the staples without one of those staple remover things. This would be for a more temporary stapling job. Use the ones that direct the ends inward for more permanent stapling jobs.
