No. They colonized and conquered other countries and territories for a variety of reasons. One was their conviction that they were bringing order, civilization, and true religious faith to primitive peoples. We may certainly disagree with this, but that was nonetheless the conviction of many.

They also needed to secure fuel, ore, lumber, minerals, crops, labor and various other resources to support the mother country and maintain the empire. Having territories over different areas of the earth ensured access to a variety of different resources.

They also were competing against other countries like France, Germany, and Russia for influence and control around the world, and they also wanted to ensure access to critical locations like the Suez Canal.

And finally, there was also pride and nationalism. The British Empire at its height included a quarter of the world's people, and a popular phrase went "the sun never sets of the British Empire". The accomplishment of creating and maintaining such a vast empire was a source of great pride for the British.

No, the British did not only fight for land.

For centuries the British fought to make sure the power in Europe was not limited to only one country, with only one leader. Take the examples of Britain fighting Napoleon and the French, the Kaiser and the Hapsburgs, or Hitler and the Germans.

Britain needed the conquered lands to siphon off a growing population, and for valuable raw materials.

uh definately not. Britain wasn't seeking land in WWII.
and Britain is an island, so in history, they were always trying to conquer lands as a way to expand their empire, because you can't expand on water.
