I am raising a 14 year old girl and have for the past 8 years-I hope we make it through these different times for teens. I try to keep up with trends and also keep my sanity!

My question is, how do you manage your grandkids. Is it easy for you or difficult and why?

My husband and I are raising our 13 year old grandaughter and except for about a year and a half, she has been with us since she was 3 months old. I think raising children is easy. The hard part is when other people try to tell you what you should or shouldn't be doing. We have to fulfill their basic needs, give them lots of love and try to help them over the rough spots. We were all that age once and I remember resenting anyone telling me what to do. We have to think before we speak and ask, not demand when we want something . The peer pressure is hard on them and they need to have their own space. I try to take an interest in her things and she even likes some of my oldies and country music. They need to be able to spend time with their friends at home as well as away . It is harder when we get older because we tire more easily and like to have our peace and quiet times. Since we weren't given a choice, we have to make the best of a difficult situation and be there for them.

We took in our granddaughter for a little over a year, when our son was going thru a divorce. There were challenges, but overall, I did like it. She's with our son now, and we miss her.

She was 12 when she came to live with us, and she turned 13 a few months later. We home schooled her, and that was a challenge, but we made it. I was the math teacher, and her grandmother did the rest.

The scariest part was the day she got her first period, and her grandma was out of town. Let me tell you, she had NO interest whatsoever in "Grandpa's Tampax Class."

Thank God my daughter (her aunt) was close enough to save the day!

My sister adopted two of her oldest sons children because he is a drug addict and his 'wife' who is now 19 gave birth to 3 other children. He is trying to get the other two boys back, because living in Arizona on welfare means more money for himself and his habits. Never gonna happen either. If he steps foot in California he is going to jail on an outstanding warrant.

I guess you could say that...I have my whole family living with me here in my home. Me, my two daughters (and the youngest ones boyfriend of five years) and three grandsons.

The other adults all work, so I am the one who "raises" the boys for the whole day. (7 a.m. to 6 p.m. with me exclusively, then 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. with their parent).

I had my Grand daughter and her girl friend for a few years in their late teens. It was really hard on all of us at times.
You are doing a good thing. She will love you for it.
I love you for it too.
