Body of Water
Written By Semper Fi Reborn

In my heart there was a drought,
That made my soul cry out in anguish.
I yearned to be quenched of this misery,
But sought refuge in malice.
Woe was my only companion,
Because only sin would lend me an ear.
Boy, oh boy did I speak to sin.
Sinking deeper within.
Losing myself.
Losing period.
Until a friend said to me,
Look man,
Take hold of yourself and rise up!
You were not meant to die in the sand.
So why are you thirsty?
Won't you drink from the cup of hope?
My thirst was ravenous,
And this cup overflowed with goodness.
I drank and drank.
Spilling nary a drop.
My thirst passed away.
And my eyes were at that moment opened.
I saw that the cup was not a cup at all.
But was the Word of God.
Which Is a Living Body of Water!
Are you thirsty?

THAT'S PERFECT!

Somehow I knew it was going to lead to God. I could tell about half-way through.

God bless you for posting such a wonderful poem! :)

Beautiful poem Semper. You have a great talent. This poem reminds me of the "Woman at the Well" that Jesus offered living water to. Remember, he said that she would never thirst again. We all need the living water of Christ.

I like this poem, Semper, even though I'm an atheist myself. And that's darned unlikely.

I like it because I can totally feel your joy of belief and emotional empowerment coming through, and know just what it would be like to believe. At the same time, that means that for me at least, the voice is also inescapably naive. I never hope to sound like a snob, but that's one obstacle religious poetry can find it hard to overcome - the unintentional condescension in its zeal for what's ultimately impossible to firmly establish as even real.

(Darn, was I saying that was a point against it? It sounds like one for it, when it comes to poetry, doesn't it....)

"What will you get from this poem?"

My understanding of it is that you begin by describing yourself as a lost soul- engulfed in sin and sadness, feeling unloved, and yearning for something to fill the void in your heart.

And, then, God came to you- offering to clense you of your sin, to bring love and joy into your life, and to fill the void in your heart with His Word.

Excellent poem. Thanks for sharing. ☺
