I'm facing that myself right now. My husband has always been a difficult person, but this year he has become almost impossible. Now he wants a divorce but won't speak one word to me. What I am doing is what you probably should be doing. I'm just keeping to myself, performing my usual duties (except for sex), keeping everything as normal as possible, while on the side, I'm cleaning up a run-down place that my uncle is willing to let me stay in until I can get a place of my own. I understand your need to leave; I have it, too. It's very painful, and having to live with him until year's end makes it ever so much worse, but I do our taxes so I must. But like you, I have the option of leaving at once if it comes to that. There is no simple solution to your question. Just keep strong and know that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. If you are in a difficult situation, you'll be surprised how much better you will feel once you regain your independence. Obviously, I've done this before, and he begged me back, but this time, it's for good. Put your foot down and believe in yourself. You can do it! Good luck, and my heart goes out to you.

I did it. In my case it was an abusive marriage and I had to tell my family when to pick me up and just walk out o´f the house with my kid and my clothes. It was really hard though, I probably made plans to leave and cancelled them about 10 times before I actually went through with it. The only recommendation I can make is to get as organized as you can before you do it, make sure you have any of your money that he could possibly access, get important stuff out of the house ahead of time (like pictures of the kids, birth certificates, etc.) because you never know once you're gone if the guy will destroy something you wanted/ needed but left behind. And once you've made your preparations... just be strong and get it done. It's so hard, but if you have to do it, you CAN do it and eventually it will be ok. Good wishes for you!!
