I signed a year contract and the only way I can get out of it is if I move 25 miles away or if I get a note from the doctor stating I'm not able to workout. Does anyone have ay brilliant ideas on how I can get out of this???

Well, next time, make sure you will be able to afford a year-long contract before you sign it. I know that sounds preachy, but it's true. Now, you might want to try approaching their HR manager and see if he/she will sit down with you (and your proof of income) showing that you are no longer able to afford going to the gym, and see what options you may have for opting out before the year is over...some sort of agreement. Just make sure you can hold true to your end of the deal, if they are willing to make one.

You are screwed. I think everyone signs up for a gym and then doesn't use it. My advice would be to cut something else out and work out. It's something everyone should do and you won't regret it in the long run. Being strong will help you down the line. Sooner or later you either get sick or hurt and strength pulls you through it. I was told I was going to be paralysed from the neck down. Immediately changed doctors and did what I could to overcome it but in the end it was the fact that I was in very good shape that enabled me to overcome it. Keep exercising.

get a note from the chiropractor. next time sign up at a gym that has options like a month to month or pay in advance commitment with no contracts. also stay away from the ones that will only let you work out when you sign up for automatic bank drafts

Have you tried talking to them about a mutually beneficial solution? I doubt the management is really hell bent on destroying your credit because you fell on hard times. See if they will suspend your membership for a year and allow you to continue your payments and fulfill your contract when you are in a better place. Trust me. They would rather accommodate you and possibly have you as a client for years then collect a few months membership fees.

Are there any other ways you can get out of it? Maybe you could talk to a manager or something about your financial situation....maybe they could charge you a cancellation fee. That sucks pretty bad....but a contract is a contract....so I'd imagine that you can get off by paying a fine.

Then try to get a note from a doctor. Good luck with that one. A contract is a contract.

Go in and slip on the floor!! Tell them you'll be okay, but you may have to go to the doctor for a note, and that could lead to further investigating, or maybe just let you out of the contract!!
I know, bad advice, sorry, the dev-- made me do it!!

Limp into the dr's office and tell him you are having knee problems. Have him write a note. I got out of my contract that way, or i'd still be paying on the dang thing.

See if any of your friends, family, or co-workers would like to take over your your contract. If not, see if you could sit down with the manager and work things out (I.e. make partial payments, etc.).

ok, here's my brilliant idea, you can buy a fake doctors excuse online, you'll pay a fee on average about $20, but you only pay it once and then be done with it. Good luck.
