It is, essentially, change over time.
That's it. No dogmatic rejections, no complex explanations.
It is simply changes that occur over periods of time.

It is the successful adaptation to change through natural selection, usually through gradual and statistical success of given one characteristic over another (inheritence).
I think the classic science definition of "evolution" has always been the same.
What changes are the theories of how it is accomplished.
What it doesn't mean, or even address, is whether there is a God (biblical or otherwise), a heaven, a hell, a human soul, or little green men.

To evolve is to change. This can be physical or meta-physical, which means after physical (see Greek philosophy). Human evolution is the result of eons of mutations and climatic changes resulting in us. Any other cataclysmic event in the future may cause to evolve further.

"evolution" means change. If you mean Darwinism, it means the fairy tale of believing that amoeba changed into human beings, that their is no soul, no heaven or hell.
