This is what I remember from anatomy & physiology:

The left side of the heart has thicker, stronger muscles. It pumps blood systemically (to the rest of the whole body), whereas the right side of the heart only pumps deoxygenated blood to the lungs, where the blood picks up oxygen and releases the carbon dioxide and then enters the left side of the heart. Then, the oxygenated blood is delivered to the rest of the body and returned to the right side of the heart as deoxygenated blood.

SO:

left side of heart - stronger pump, pumps oxygen-rich blood to the rest of the body

right side of the heart - receives deoxygenated blood and pumps the blood to the lungs to pick up oxygen & release carbon dioxide
