The article is bull! Because i live in zone 5 and we never did that and every year it works just fine! But if you wanna disconnect it just remove the hose and put it in your basement and the same thing goes with the thing you turn to turn on the hose.

Anytime, or anywhere, you have a danger of freezing temps you should disconnect hoses from outside faucets. A burst pipe is no fun.

I take mine off, and blow out the hose with my air compressor to remove water!! Never lost a hose yet!! Replace ole faucets w/freeze proof, if not cover them with pre-fab covers from hardware!

IF you have freezing temperatures, then 'yes'. I'm in zone 4 & we definitely have freezing temperatures. We disconnect our garden hose (AND the spray nozzle off). Drain water out of hose & recoil then put it in the garage.

You should disconnect the hose and drain it and store it in a sheltered location in the winter to extend the lifespan and avoid it splitting when water trapped in it expands. If you have "no freeze" hose bibbs, you can avoid covering them, otherwise they can crack and freeze or just not function properly in the spring when you go to use them again.

Yes - disconnect and store them away as they can freeze and then you'll just have to buy a new one. And definitely cover the faucet - if that thing freezes it could cause burst pipes in your house - not a very pleasant thing to deal with when it's freezing outside! (The cover is an inexpensive piece of Styrofoam.)
