I wonder if removing his uniform would make much difference.

Pakistan is a big and dangerous mess. No uniform = change? I hope so, but I don't think it will. The damage has been done. Though I'm a bit of a liberal, I can't say as I blame him for the mistake he's made. Too many violent and ignorant people in that country. And his life has been in danger for a long time. I love democracy and hate what he has done, but he may very well need to be showing the overwhelming strength that he is showing. In much of the world, that is still the prime criteria for leadership. Strength and a threat of real retaliation. And I've listened too him speak many times. They could do a lot worse than him as a dictator. Democracy there could lead to a religious dictator that would end all chance of of democracy for many years to come. Musharraf is a least potentially open to influence from western democracies. It is easy to read the evening news and pass judgment. Look how the average American acted after 9/11. Imaging living in fear of bombing your whole life. I woke up 10/11 and watched in horror as my country turned into war mongers, liberals included. Ya'll wanted vengeance, and this is were it got us. Musharraf stuck his neck out for us and this is where it got him. Hate him or not, at least try to understand him. That is what liberals are suppose to be good at, isn't it? We simply cannot afford to have a country that hates us and has many nukes deteriorate into anarchy. Sad but true.

What would that have to do with anything, the man is still trying to take away the Democracy the people of Pakistan want & insist that he get out of the way of their having it! Once some people get power they are reluctant to give it up, just ask Bush & Putin! Report from Pakistan on this evenings news, the military may step in & take the uniform from him & perhaps a lot more!

Isn't the biggest reason he declared martial law the fact that his own supreme court said he couldn't remain both head of the army and president?

If he does "take off his uniform", it won't be because Bush "made a suggestion" that he do so, but because somebody made him an offer he can't refuse...

No. I mean, he might, as a formalilty or technicality, but he will retain control of the military or he will lose control of the country (such as it is).
