At 23 life should still be new, fresh, exciting and full of adventures. You are starting a new chapter in your life. You should be out enjoying your twenties... go out meet new people, discover new things about yourself.

Life is a journey, and every day, every week, month and decade will bring you ups and downs. What your job is, is to discover the good in everything. If you are feeling this drab at only 23 maybe you should see a doctor, and talk to them about how you are feeling.

I am 43, the mother of four and grandmother of two. Both my parents died within 9 months of each other, and I was depressed for quite awhile. But, now I know that life goes on, and everyday brings something new to my life. I choose to be happy everyday. Happiness is an attitude, choose to be happy and life your life that way from now on.

God bless you... keep us posted on how you fee.

I hate the word "Normal"!

I am 48 and I can relate to what you are saying. Being an adult isn't necessarily the best stage of life.

I think that being a young child is the best. Things are new, exciting, so much learning and just awe and innocence.

I try desperately to hold onto my inner child because that is what brings me the most happiness. My biggest fear in life is growing old.

Where did all the curiosity go??? I would be curious to know as well. theres this book...its called
"Why We Do What We Do" by Edward L. Deci.

He questions what motivates us as humans. Children are naturally motivated by themselves without the aid of rewards and/or punishments. The moment someone introduces a reward, the sense of accomplishment is redirected from the actual doing of the activity to the obtaining of the reward itself.
The activity is no longer enjoyable because all that matters is that it be over and done with. The fun has moved from the "doing" to the "done."

The most popular reward given today is...its a tough choice... either money or knowledge.

As a kid we ask a lot of questions right? We want to know everything. Our parents are god to us because they know the answers to all of our questions. We believe their answers to be true because we have no choice. We keep asking and they keep telling.

They actually take the fun out of asking questions by providing us all the answers. We seek knowledge by asking questions and they kill the fun of seeking knowledge by rewarding us with answers.

For the longest time I thought I had the world all figured out.
I could give you advice, but I'm only 19 myself and I feel the same way as you do....but anyway

Yes a lot of adults probably feel the way you do and in this society, yes its normal...(materialism leads to unhappiness)... There's nothing wrong with you. Maybe its your rewards. Maybe you truly don't value your rewards.

"Enthusiasm releases the drive to carry you over obstacles and adds significance to all you do."

If by Normal you mean do most people feel like it then the answer is yes because we are conditioned by the State & Media to look out to the worst parts of human nature.
If by Normal you mean do most people feel like it then the answer is yes because we are conditioned by the State & Media to look out to the worst parts of human nature.
If by Normal you mean is it the natural then the answer is yes & NO.
You will have different tastes as your body changes. Every thing is either constantly evolving or decaying.
Children naturally enjoy life because they have not learnt to accept the interpretations others apply to their world.
Successful people know they create the world around themselves so are grateful for the power of thought to make their dream life real so they can beHappy.
