Dry cleaning uses a solvent to launder the clothes rather than water and detergent. This solvent supposedly does not cause fading or shrinkage, because it doesn't affect the cloth fibers like water does. I say supposedly because, while the solvent does not cause shrinkage of cloth fibers (it will not cause clothes to shrink), it may cause some fading depending on how well the filters in the dry cleaning machine work to clean dirt and stuff out of the recycled dry cleaning solvent.
Generally, though, dry cleaning will not cause shrinkage or fading of clothes.

Dry cleaning does not fade or shrink clothes.
Improper dry cleaning 'pressing' on some fabrics may shrink the item. Fading may appear if their was excess sweat or chemicals previously on item.

We have never had fading or shrinkage with dry cleaning. We've been to three different dry cleaners over the years and all of them have done a great job. My husband wears a lot of silk and rayon shirts...even the shirts that are 5 years old still look like new.
Dry cleaners are professionals who know the do's & don'ts of fabrics and they would be able to answer your questions too.
Good luck

Usually it shouldn't do either. However, a dry cleaner can really screw things up too!

usually not. this is why people sometimes prefer it to washing in detergent and water. however, it gets costly and is a poor excuse for not learning to iron.

it can very occasionally but on the bright side its the drycleaners fault so they should compensate you for a new item.
