Items of clothing that I care about I dry on hangers. The dryer will fade anything and everything. You may also be using a harsh detergent. Unless the clothes are really dirty use a mild detergent and go to cold water especially on a black shirt. The other thing you should consider...the quality of the items. Less expensive clothes do not hold up well. If you are paying good money than hang them, mild detergent and cold water. Good luck...

FYI, woolite is a really crap cleaner for clothes. It may keep the color in but it certainly doesn't take what it's supposed to out! I'm not talking about permanent stains, but stuff my regular detergent definitely gets our every time. If you are going to try using a detergent meant to keep color in clothes, try something besides Woolite- it's the first I've tried so I can't speak for any others.
Also, I had the same problem with clothes shrinking so now I wash in cold water and dry on low- it takes longer but it's just better so I think it's worth it.

Wash your clothes in cold water. Tumble dry on low heat or hang to dry. Hot washes are what shrink your clothing and can cause fading. There are laundry soaps that help prevent fading such as cheer, tide... just read the lable.

Turn shirt inside out. Cold wash & cold rinse; short (delicate) wash cycle. Low dryer heat (fluff dry). Use liquid detergent instead of granular.
or Woolite in cold water hand wash.

Wash with cold water. Woolite makes a detergent for dark colors, there may be some other brands available as well. Good Luck!

I wash in cold water and hang the majority of my stuff to dry. There's also a detergent that helps keep dark colours dark. I think it's by the Zero brand. Take a look in the laundry detergent section at the store and you will find it.

to prevent clothes from shrinking and fading
turn clothes inside out when washing.
add salt and white vinegar and detergent [ or zero for black clothes ;grocery store] for three washes
after 3 washes you do not have to use vinegar and salt; but you can continue doing it
make sure you use cold water.
take clothes out of washer , give a good shake and reshape clothes. hang to dry.
NOTE: ADD SALT VINEGAR AND DETERGENT IN WATER BEFORE ADDING CLOTHES.

Woolite for dark colors works really well, also you can let things hang dry so they don't shrink..they may become a bit stiff but nothing an iron can't fix

cold water and low heat to prevent from shrinking, or hang dry/lay flat to dry
and add a cup vinegar to final rinse of wash, it will keep your clothes from fading and it will also break down detergent so it will rinse completely out of your clothes. your clothes will not smell like vinegar and it is also a natural fabric softener

i wash everything in cold water and dry everything on low now...it seems to help some. for shrinking, you could also lay clothes out to air dry and just fluff them in the dryer when they're dry to soften them.
