Ok, You know how cat urine is full of ammonia, and you aren't supposed to mix bleach and ammonia, well I just cleaned the litter box with bleach. (Just a spray on the empty plastic before filling it with new litter, usually i use Lysol, but I ran out and used a bleach all purpose cleaner instead)

Should i trash it? buy a new one? is it toxic right now? help!

It's fine. the bleach dried first before putting in the litter. The ammonia (smell) is not the same as ammonia.

Actually the problem with mixing ammonia and bleach is the fumes and vapors that it creates. If you have cleaned off any cleaner you sprayed on it and you don't notice any fumes (if there are fumes you will definitely notice them) then you and your cat are fine.

PS in response to Mom3 who posted above. The ammonia smell is ammonia. The acids in urine quickly convert to ammonia. Thus the smell of ammonia from litterboxes.

I really do not think you need to worry. You are not giving the cat a bath in the stuff. I have cleaned my cat pan with bleach before and the cat is getting very old!

It will be fine. You are not actually mixing bleach and ammonia like two liquids. I still use a very well ventilated area when working with either one.

Your cat box and your cat will be fine. Ammonia and bleach do react to form chlorine gas, but the amount that will form in your cat box is going to be tiny.

It's just me, but I wouldn't put bleach or Lysol anywhere near my cat. Hot water and some dishwashing liquid is what I use on her box.

Don't be ridiculous. Hospitals use bleach to clean bedpans all the time. Don't you wash your toilet with bleach? Even if you wash a salad bowl with vinegar dressing in the dishwasher it is coming in contact with bleach.

I'd get rid of the cat anyway.

You/cat should be ok.. Just rinse the litter box in the bathtub with warm water and wipe dry...

No problem; will not affect either one of you; just don't breathe it while it is being mixed - - air it out = OK.
Rinse the vinegar/water or soap/water to remove bleach smell.

just rinse it out with vinegar. I do it in my bathroom all the time to neutralize the bleach. as long as the bleach is rinsed out you can use vinegar to wash it out, you won't smell any more bleach!!
