why does thing that are heavier go less distances when flung from a catapult?

and why do lighter things go farther when flung?

i know its a dumb question, i just don't know how to explain it in my essay

please help meee!

It's all to do with Newton's laws, one of which says that 'Actions and reactions are equal and opposite.' so the more force you apply the greater the distance travelled. If the item propelled is lighter the ratio of force will be greater thus lengthening the distance travelled.

the reason why heaver things go lessdistance is cause of the mass .the reason is when you have a great amount of mass is won't go far for example is a couch it won't go far cause it weighs alot but if i throw a lamp it will go farter because it have less mass and it weigh less

The best answer I would have would be that friction and gravity have more volume to push against.
