Let me clarify this: I'm home alone...does that mean my dog isn't here for some reason? Am I in a nervous mood?
Granting those two suppositions, which aren't probable but what the heck, the Bible...specifically the New Testament or Psalms for encouragement and courage.
After that, Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen - my favorite book. It's light and charming and witty. What's more important, it will keep me upbeat!
Of course, I could choose a heavy tome that is complicated and interesting and absorbing. One such, for me, would be Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell.
If I'm in the mood for fantasy, I'll read The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis.
If I'm nervous and my dog's not around, I'll stay 180 degrees away from any horror story and I'm not likely to choose a mystery.

Either The Outsiders, by S.E. Hinton (my absolute favorite book, I have literally read it HUNDREDS of times) or The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis (I have all of them bound together, so it counts as one!). The only thing that would make me lean one way or the other is how much time alone I have. If it is under an hour, then it would have to be The Outsiders, because I can finish it in an hour or so. If it is more than that, then I would have to go with C.S. Lewis.

I'd want something I haven't read yet. I'm interesting in reading Joe Hill's book of ghost stories. (Joe Hill is Stephen King's son. He uses his mother's maiden name as his alias.) The book is called "20th Century Ghosts". I LOVE ghost stories, and the book got good reviews.

Don't laugh but it would be Angels and Demons by Dan Brown.
umm I think I would not go for a romantic novel because its not wise to get wild when you are home alone. Lolz

Best book I have ever read was "Between Friends" by Debbie Mcomber. I could read it over and over again.
I could so relate to it!

besides the novel I have for class. The Tractatus is what I would pick, so I can concentrate on it fully without my husband bothering me.
