I wanted to be a Canadian Mountie (and if you are not old enough, it is a Policeman), or a lumberjack, in Canada.
As a child it never occurred to me that to be either of these two things you'd need to have two working arms, and because of Polio, I had only one.
Fora time, I wanted to be an archaeologist, but the excuse for simply digging holes was pretty shallow as my interest in history was insufficient.
After that, I never really 'wanted' to be anything in particular ~ other than 'good at' ~ whatever I chose to do.
A bunch of health problems have invariably got in the way or tripped me up.
Sash.

I had a plan. A PERFECT plan. It was so cool!
In the morning, I would be a cop. I would only need an hour or two to solve murder cases, but I would need extra time to make friends with people who later would be accused of murder and need me to prove they didn't do it or who would be murdered so I could make my own rules and defy the head of detectives and solve the case on my own time.
In the afternoon, I would play center field for the New York Yankees. I could already switch hit and before I even turned 30 Mickey Mantle would nominate me for the Hall of Fame.
In the evening I would have my television show. I'd be like Red Skelton, only a lot better. Red would guest star frequently on my show to get pointers.
Saturdays I would make movies. I knew then that it would take all day. So I didn't make any more plans for Saturday.
On Sundays I would write. I would whip out my column in a few minutes, maybe half an hour and then go back to work on my novel.
I'm came close, but didn't QUITE make it.

When I was in high school I wanted to be a stewardess but I got too fat.
I wanted to get married and have a family.
Then I kind of fell into nursing with the help of caring adults in my life making it possible.
That was good to do because if I didn't get married I would have a job anyway.
So I did that until I had kids then quit.
Though I have been taking care of everyone since then.
Now that I look back, I wish I hadn't quit.

I wanted to be an Air Hostess but the school careers advisor persuaded my parents it wasn't a good idea. I ended up booked on a course for typing which I didn't take dropped out before it started. Ended up getting a few dead end jobs but now am in a job I love but it doesn't have enough people contact for me.

I wanted to be the guy that had all the answers to everyones questions. I wanted to be in a cartoon with Bugs Bunny. I wanted to be rich and not ever have to worry about money, ever. I wanted to find lost pirate treasures. I wanted to be Superman and fly away whenever I could. I wanted to live in a place where I could eat cake and ice cream all day long and not worry about my weight or cavities. I never wanted to take that icky cough syrup again. I wanted to obtain magical powers so I could do anything I wanted. I wanted to be the best ball player ever. I wanted it all. At least I get to answer peoples questions now. ;)

a circus clown...seriously! I figured having a family might be more important than traveling 9 months out of the year, still not totally out of the question though.
