I have a dog and a upcoming baby. To travel to the park or anywhere with both of them, is there a set up for this ... like a plastic wall that can go between the two of them? Anyone heard of something?

Thanks!

My dogs don't hurt my baby at home...but they are decidedly more jumpy in the car...

THE ONLY safe way to travel with a pet in the car with or without a baby, is to have the pet restrained. Pets, like anything else that isn't securely tied down, become projectiles during an accident.

Wether it be in a crate, or in a harness or in a separate compartment in the car, the pet should always be restrained for it's own safety as well as those traveling in the car with it.

I would be very careful...even one poorly placed paw from an animal that big could be very damaging even if it wasn't intended, even if it was just playing.

Restrain your pet for the health and safety of everyone in the car.

Why cant you put the dog in the front seat?

We had a dane and ended up getting a minivan because of this issue.

It might be time to upgrade to a car with a far back- like a subaru or an escape, or even a caravan (which drives better than both and gets better gas milage).

my dog is really good with the baby. I just have them beside each other... well the dog actually has run of the van. If for some reason I want the dog in one spot, I have a dog seatbelt in the van at all times. It is $15 which is much cheaper than a kennel or one of those wires divides you get to keep them in the back of the vans or SUVs.

They sell doggie seatbelts that attach to the regular seatbelt (in the connected position). They are adjustable so you can control how much motion the dog has. I had a golden retriever that liked to sit up front with me, which was unworkable. I would put a harness on her and it clipped to the doggie seatbelt. You only had to adjust it once and it would stay there. I'm sure it would work for your situation.

There are doggy seat belts (pet car harnesses) you can buy to keep the pooch in place: http://www.petstreetmall.com/Pet-Vehicle-Safety-Harness-/7367/2723/ Also you might try a kennel or dog carrier. The front seat or the "way back" works for us.

Put the dog in a carrier or in the front seat. Or else dont worry about it, if your dog wont hurt the baby in your home it wont hurt them in teh car.
