Its really hard for me to pick a "best" player on the Red Sox, because I feel that they all work together to create an amazing team. Mike Lowell contributed so much to the Red Sox this year which is why he won MVP! The rookies Dustin Pedroia & Jacoby Ellsbury were really inspiring as well, and their fielding was top notch! Papelbon saved SO many games and his pitching was phenominal. Dice-K went strong for multiple innings, and he did a great job during the 3rd World Series game. That's why its so hard for me to pick a favorite player, ha ha=)

So on YOUR favorite baseball team, which player do YOU feel contributes the most to the team?

oh god greta im with you on this one, it is next to impossible to pick someone on the red sox, heres a funny name to throw out there, how about tavares, he never complained, he would start, or come in relief...he wasnt great by any stretch, but he was a help so i figured he deserved mention and how could we forget wakefield, you know he wouldve gone out there and pitched game 4 of the series if tito asked him to even though it might end his career.

I'm having a hard time juggling between Brian Roberts and Erik Bedard. I think though that I'd have to give the edge to Bedard as a player. The one thing that sticks out with me is that he put up better regular season numbers than Josh Beckett and Dice-K, two pitchers for the world champion Red Sox.

He had a career best game this year in Texas striking out 15 batters in a complete game 2 hit shut-out. So to me in an era of Orioles baseball where pitching has generally been inconsistant and lack-luster, Bedard has been a solid foundation. (Though I should note that Jeremy Guthrie has also been good for the Orioles as a rookie this past season).

However as for Brian Roberts. He's a quality leadoff hitter who could play leadoff for most teams. He is a patient hitter who's not afraid to take walks, he gets on base a lot, and that's when you see Roberts at his best. He's a crafty baserunner who likes to distract the opposing pitcher, then pick his spot and steal second base anyway.

Even for an offense that doesn't generate a lot of runs, I say the Orioles are clearly better when Roberts is in the line-up. He also is very visable in the community. He likes to spend time with kids at the University Maryland hospital for Children, and has his very own charity "Brian's baseball bash" which indeed benefits the U of MD Hospital for children.

In a time where the Orioles have been a losing franchise, and fans have been visably frusterated with the lack of contention, Brian Roberts represents the Orioles well by the way he carries himself, and has the respect of the fans because of that.

So it's hard for me to juggle between Roberts and Bedard. As a starter Bedard has a lot of influence on the club's win/loss record, and has 15 wins all the meanwhile putting up good enough numbers to be a 20 game winner.

Brian Roberts though contributes a lot both on and off the feild. So I have to give a slight edge to Roberts here.

It's wicked hard to pick someone for the Red Sox. Papelbon, Lowell, Beckett, Ellsbury, and basically the rest of the team contributed. I think Jacoby Ellsbury will contribute even more next season because he is amazing!!

This year for the Mets: David Wright, Billy Wagner (he's the only reliable guy outta the bullpen), Carlos Beltran, John Maine, Oliver Perez, Tom Glavine and Luis Castillo (he came in the middle of the season and provided awesome defense at second base for the Mets).

SAN DIEGO PADRES:

Adrian Gonzales: Great 1st baseman, good power numbers. 30+ homers and 100+ RBI's in the futures. (he hit 28 and 100 this season, and hes young.) Also probably future gold glover. Hits a lot of doubles.

Khalil Greene: Another great young slugger. He's a very good defensive shortstop and has great power numbers. (another 30+ HR's and 100+ rbi's guy) Criticized for his low batting average though. Hits a lot of doubles.

Jake Peavy: BEAST!

Placido Polanco. Easily overlooked on the Detroit Tigers with all the all-stars, even though he was one. He hits constantly with an occasional homer, and very solid at 2b.

I feel that the player that usually contributes the most is the team catcher. He has such an important job.

Brandon Phillips - Cincinnati (It's not hard to be a top contributor in cincy, but he went 30 30.
If not Phillips, I would say Harang.
