I use it all the time to pay reliable eBay sellers with my credit card. They don't get to see my credit card information and I have some recourse if the merchandise is not as described, is damaged, or doesn't arrive at all. I had just one problem transaction, and received a full item credit but not the shipping, which is fairly common.

I've hesitated in setting up a seller account to accept payments, because I don't like paying the fees. Paypal got the thing off the ground by promising there would be no fees to users, that they made their money off of the 'float', or the period between the time the money is sent from one account and deposited into another. Then they started charging sellers fees similar to credit card fees. I've heard too many stories where unscrupulous buyers got their money back from Paypal (Paypal charged back the seller) but the seller never got back the merchandise.

I like it to buy, but I'm too small to take any losses. High-volume sellers look at it as a cost of doing business.

Nasty stuff? I've never heard anything bad about Paypal. It's impeccable, really. What happens is, you put in your credit card to Paypal, and then if you want to buy something, you give the paypal email address you signed up with to the company you're buying from(by clicking a button), and then Paypal acts as a buffer between you and the seller. Basically, the company is guaranteed their money because Paypal authorizes it, and you are guaranteed your product because if you don't get it by fault of the company, you can file a claim with Paypal and get a refund easily.
