Most people of any age enjoy movies and music-listening/dancing/singing along to cd's or seeing someone perform for them or putting on a little show themselves. It could be music, a comedy act, a short play, etc. Some folks I know in the retirement home also enjoy playing Bingo or Trivia for small prizes or quarters and making different types of crafts. I would speak to the people you are doing these activities for and get their input on what they would enjoy doing.

I think it's wonderful you care enough to ask about what they would enjoy. Bless you.

Pretty hard to lump everyone together that is over the age of 55 and come up with something we would all like. Too much of a generalization. We are just as different in our tastes as people under age 55 are.

But if it will help here are some of the things I enjoy:

once a week meeting for an hour and half to do crafts at the senior center

playing scrabble

working sudoku

Books; by Janet Evanovich, Nora Roberts, Jayne Castle and Tami Hoag. Romance, mystery, paranormal

Movies: Adventure movies with a little romance thrown in. Science fiction movies and horror movies.

Music: I like semi classical and light opera. But I don't mind some country and some of the oldies.

But the activity is really not as important as just being together and sharing our lives with each other.

Elderly????? If this question is asked by a young person please define the age group you are enquiring about. By listening to the media these days an elderly person can by 50yrs and older. I'm in my late fifties and I DON'T consider myself elderly and I know some ladies in their 70's who would be horrified to be called elderly.

In my view as an older person entertainment could be a video that your parents would watch. Same with music.

There were a bunch of ladies...after a couple of wine coolers....that loved to play a sort of "name that tune" with old records.......we like to remember the old times.

I worked in a home and even those who can't get around...can still tap there feet to music. We had our residents give dance lessons to young kids....trust me.....they can dance.

Sometimes people can't do things but their minds are still there.....we all need to be needed and wanted in some way.

Hint....I don't think there's a video you can stick in to "entertain" the elderly like you can the kids.

My mother-in-law was nearly 90 when she went to Africa on a safari, and I've seen videos of the senior Olympics. On the other hand, I've seen kids primary through college ages who are just couch potatoes. Who would you say is elderly?

There are lots of card games, such as Bunco or Bridge.
But, watch out for those who like to play Poker, they get started and it goes non-stop for hours.

Also, Bingo, that goes for hours, too.

You might try getting a group to come in for entertainment. See if your local Senior Center has a group of people that do this type of thing. It's a good change from video's, etc.

Pet therapy.
And a discussion of current events. Bring the daily newspaper or news off the internet and discuss what is going on.
