Just make sure your leftfielder played leftfield most of his career. Same goes for center and right.

Ted Williams, Mickey Mantle, Babe Ruth. Backups, Stan Musial, Willie Mays, Hank Aaron.
Mantle was a better hitter than either Mays or Joe DiMaggio, and whatever edge they had in fielding was not so great as to wipe the hitting advantage out. I don't use Ty Cobb because he was an average fielder at best. I don't use Barry Bonds because he cheated. I don't use Ken Griffey because if I'm going to have a center fielder who's always getting hurt, I'll take Mantle who was a better player.
Within my own lifetime, it's a little tougher. I'd put Griffey in center, but I'm not sure if Dave Winfield played more games in left or right. I could put him in left and Andre Dawson in right. Or Winfield in right and Rickey Henderson, attitude and all, in left. I'd like to put Reggie Jackson, my all-time favorite athlete, in right, but I just can't because of his glove.
