Boyz in the Hood was a 9+. That and Menace 2 Society (10) were the best movies about growing up in LA in the 90's. Soundtrack was cool, funny lines, emotional, and great acting by great actors. Fishburne, Bassette, Ice Cube, Cuba, and Chestnut delivered strong real characters to a real world that at the time nobody knew about except for the deaths being reported. One of the best movies of my time.
