Elizabeth and Elisabeth. I'm having a baby girl soon and we're considering naming her one of these. Would you pronounce them the same? Thanks!

also, which spelling do you like better? I don't care if people spell it wrong. We'll correct them. Which looks prettier to you?

I think we would just call her Elisabeth (or Elizabeth). Maybe Lizz or Lizzie occasionally, but if we arn't going to call her Elisabeth, then why waste such a gorgeous name?

I always loved the name Elizabeth.
I really like the spelling Elisabeth or Elisabethe. I would pronounce it the same. That is a very classic name! Congrats.

My middle name is Elizabeth, and I've always thought that Elisabeth looks like a softer, more feminine name. I think I prefer the Elizabeth spelling, though. I love the nickname Lis instead of Liz, but that can really come from either spelling. I say both versions the same.

Elisabeth would be a bit softer on the -s-, as opposed to the sharper sound of the -z- in Elizabeth. I like the spelling Elisabeth better, though I usually pronounce it like Elizabeth anyway lol. Most people probably will. Elisabeth is just a little less common, which is why I like it.
And I say go for Elisabeth! It's a great, traditional but timeless name. Plus, you can get tons of nicknames out of it, depending on how your daughter turns out to be lol. Eli (for a tomboy), Ellie, Seth, Betsy (one of my favorites), Bessie (maybe for a quieter girl), Libby, Eliza (if you went with Elizabeth), etc.
Good luck and congrats!

There is not much of a pronounciation difference and both mean Devoted to God. Some people pronounce the S version: Elle- issa- beth, but both can be pronounced E- Liz- a beth. It's up to you, really.
I prefer the Z. It looks better to the eye.
However, it depends who you want to name her after. The Biblical Elisabeth is spelled with an S, so if you are looking for a Bible name, then that is the way to go.
Queen Elizabeth was instrumental in making the Z version huge, so if you prefer the more popular princessy name, then go with the Z.
Good luck to you. Either way, Eliz/sabeth is a beautiful name! One of my faves.

I like Elizabeth better. I think if I came across Elisabeth I'd pronounce it with a "sss" type sound.

Elizabeth (great name & is my middle name) as far as i know people tend to pronounce them the same, so it's just a spelling preference.

Well my sister's middle name is Elisabeth, and we normally just say Elizabeth, but sometimes we say it Eh-liss-uh-beth. I think Elisabeth will be pronounced Eh-liss-uh-beth, but I like it better that way; it's softer.

I would pronounce them the same....I've always spell it with a Z...it's habit.
And my name is common and only 5 letters and people STILL misspell it....there are some AWFUL spellers out there so Kudos for your positive attitude. I hate it when people say "so many people are going to misspell it." Who cares...
