He's on a roll right now and beating everyone in sight but will this continue? He has a history of letting his weight go up and his motivation go down as demonstrated by his plummet from number 3 to number 25 in the rankings. There's no question that he has the talent but does he have the focus and motivation to continue playing like this? Because its one thing to play brilliantly for a few weeks or months, its quite another to do it year after year like Federer amazingly has done.

Nalbandian is a great competitor and I'm a huge fan of his. But sad to say, his greatness comes sporadically. He'll fall into a slump again and choke on big matches in 2008... he has had this pattern for years now.

He may do well in small hard-court tournaments, playing 3-4 matches, but he can't maintain this consistency during a major. Outdoor conditions don't favor him either.

I don't think David has the confidence to play great tennis for an entire year. Remember that he was far fresher than Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic, only because he played a lot less tennis than them. It's amazing that he took out the top 3 players in 2 consecutive tourneys, but they won't forget what Nalbandian did to them. Rest assured, they will be well prepared the next time they have to face Nalbandian, and they'll beat him. There's no question, the talent is there. However, it's his confidence that will betray him as it always has. He'll lose the motivation and go back down the rankings. He just doesn't have what it takes to keep up great tennis for an entire year.

Yes I agreed he is on a roll. But only for right now. You know, he has a pattern, last year he was on a roll in the Masters, creaming everyone but then he was in a slump in a long time. Lets see, would you rather win a couple small tournaments but then play horrible like Nalbanian? Or sort of play like Nadal, Djokovic, and Federer, winning most, but losing a little bit. Pick, your choice.

I think I woudln't go with Nalbanian's tennis pattern. Yeah my point exactly is what you are saying.

As you probably know, he does the best on indoors, sometimes on indoor carpet. It's this time of year where he is playing the best, but soon when 2008 comes around the corner, he will sort of do not as good as now, maybe lose to some lower ranked players and lose in the early rounds.

But we will have to see how he plays and practices...

David Nalbanian is much better than his ranking indicated. He has many wins over Roger Federer in the past. If he can stay focus and in good shape, he will be a force in 2008.

I think it might last a little longer going in to 2008 but it's hard to say. I will be interested to see what happens when the new season starts in Jan.

I vote for your explanation to the question as the best answer. He's always had the ability(Wimbledon final back in 2002), but not the discipline. Maybe magically now??

Unfortunately I don't. I'm happy for him, but his great run came at the end of the season. I don't think he'll be playing again until January. He didn't make the masters cup, did he?

i believe that it is temporary because if he could beat all these good players now then why couldn't he do it earlier this year. i was at indian well this year and i happen to watch him play and from what i saw he was in no condition to beat any top players.
