she wanted to know that if by getting married she can work in a factory or in other words have the right to work in a place where they only accept 18 year olds and over. Supposely getting married gets you emancipated when you're underage, so she wanted to know does that give you the right to get an apartment under your name, get a factory job, get a car under your name, ect. ect. Can anyone help? Thanks!!

I don't think by getting married at 17 will help your friend to qualify working at a factory where the age limit is 18 years and older. It just means she will be married. And until you turn 18 years old, you don't have the right to sign a contract of employment with employers. She can more than likely get a car in her own name, but not necessarily obtain insurance on that car. Most lenders, car dealerships, employers, and apartment owners/managers require that a person be of legal age (18 years old) to sign a contract in order for the contract to be legally binding. Otherwise, assuming her husband is 18 or over, he will be responsible for everything she owns and it will probably have to be in his name. That doesn't change the fact that she is underage to work in a factory. See if she can find a job where she can legally go to work at 17. Even if marrying at 17 emancipates you from your parents, other State and Federal laws will still apply to her.

That's a stupid reason to get married... why can't she just wait until her birthday?.. She's only 1 year away. And she wants a factory job?.. sounds a little immature to me.. but wuteva floats her boat.

law is still 18. All she gets is a paper she's married. Everything still goes through the husband
