Is it legal for police officers to insult you? Like if I haven't done anything wrong, but they thought something I did was stupid, is it legal for them to call me an idiot? If it is legal, do you think it's something that would be frowned upon by his superior? Should I report him for being unprofessional and an all around douche bag?

No, it is not right for a police officer to insult you for calling you an idiot! Just like it is not right for you stating an all around douche bag!
Yes, you can report it to his superior. But, you better have proof and/or you better not have been doing/saying ANYTHING that would make you an idiot!

I think it would be better and easier just to let it go. Police officers are people, too, and entitled to their own opinions. You're always going to have people who think badly of you, and the only thing you can really do is just get on with life. I don't think it's really a big enough deal to report him just for calling you an idiot.

Police can get away with something like calling you an idiot... especially if you were being one at the time. I think the law draws the line at police verbally threatening, sexually harrassing or physically assaulting you. In the mean time, get over yourself and don't be an idiot.
