By having a more open line of communication between the teen and the adults in their lives. Teens like to keep secrets and sex is probably the biggest one. If we started being totally open with our children from the beginning, maybe they wouldnt be afraid to come to us when they have an important question to ask. We also have to impress on the girls that their identity has to be beyond their sexual selves. It shouldnt be a contest as to who puts out the most or how good the girl is in bed. There needs to be more emphasis placed on pride in themselves from other areas. Their grades in school should be more important than what kind of clothes they wear. It would be very nice if abstinence was the answer, but I think we all know how that would go over.

Yea it can be prevented if the stick never ends up in the hole. and there is major parental intervention allways make sure you know where johnny is and Suzie is you are still in controll untill they are 18 it doesnt stop untill they are out of the house and on thier own. keep the open line of communication with the kid. and make sure they know about birth control if you suspect anything. Also put the fear if baby into them 18 years of supporting a baby even if your only in high school flippin burgers can buy some diapers and milk for the kid.

Perhaps we should stop making sex sound like the be-all and end-all of human existence?
Maybe we should explain to our kids that there is a hell of alot more to loving someone than going to bed with them...there is getting up in the morning with the same person, day after day, year after year...facing your problems together, fussing over bills, kids, the TV remote...
Let's stop making sex a fantasy, and teach kids about the realities and responsibilities that come with it.

Teenagers need to be INFORMED. The best way is if their parents/guardians TALK to them about it, but if they don't do it, the school needs to provide counseling/have sex education classes.

PARENTS: If you don't like your child taking sex education classes, you better talk to them about it yourselves because if your child doesn't get the information, if they don't end up pregnant, they could end up with a nasty STD. So I encourage you to at least let your child take a sex ed class if you do not feel comfortable talking about this. It will save you and your child a lot of trouble.

Make the boys just as responible for the pregnacy as the girls. Make them pay child support even if they are only 16.

How about saying No.

Not having sex is a big deterrent to pregnancy in general.

It does start with the parents! they may not be able to prevent it but if they were actually involved it would help.
