I have tried everything...I have tried putting it in the dvd player and the cd-rom in my computer and it won't load...it also makes weird sounds when i put it in like it is trying to rip it up or something. The cd's are also really thick...it just seems kind of weird to have them that thick. Is it right for there to be only 2 cd's? My friends got just the normal sims 2 and it had 4 cd's! It just doesn't seem right to only have two cd's when you have the normal sims 2 plus antoher expansion pack...someone please tell me how to load it or what to do with it...i really need some help.

First off, the Dvd version is the same game as the CD-rom version. The only difference is the number of disks. CD's hold less information than the DVD's, that is why the CD version has 4 disks and the DVD version has 1 (the second disk is the expansion).
Now, on to the rest of your question.
First off, you need to make sure you install the BASE game FIRST. That is, the Sims 2. If you don't, it won't let you install the expansion pack.
Since you have the DVD version, it should only work in your DVD-rom drive. When you put the disk in, it should pop up with the install info, choosing your language, and the serial number area. You MUST enter the serial number in order to install. Once the serial number is entered, it'll start the install process. Don't rush it, it's a game with a large install file. The installation will take several minutes.
I am concerned though, you said when you put it in the drive, the drive makes a sound like the disk is being torn up. That's not a good sign. Depending on how old your drive is, it might be time for a new one. That sound could be the sound of your drive dieing.
As for the disks feeling too thick, well, I'm not sure on that. If you purchased the game in a US store (Best Buy, Target, Walmart), I probably wouldn't be too concerned with them, however, if you purchased it from somewhere like Ebay, then you could have a problem. The disks could be bad.
Regardless, I wish you luck. You could always try returning the game to the store and buy the CD version. A lot more disks, but usually easier to install.

The Sims 2 DVD edition was 2 DVD's, the cd version has 4 cds. The DVD edition will only install using a DVD drive.

Mine is only two discs too, and yes, it's for your PC, not your dvd player.
I don't know why it won't load - maybe you need to leave it longer to register before assuming it's not working? It should bring up the installation page asking which language you want, and then asking for your registration number from the back of the booklet.

CompUsa, Best Buy, Microcenter If you do get an internal one instead of an external, they should also offer installation services.
