Ok - I've owned 2 MP3 players before now; the first a crappy 512MB and the second a 1GB Q-B. I've decided I want more space (a LOT more space!) so I'm looking at a couple of the bigger players, mainly the ipod (80GB classic).

Could someone please explain to me how it works?
- As of the moment most of my music is on CD - I assume I'll be able to listen to these still?
- As for the few songs I have downloaded (not through itunes) - will I be able to play these? Some music has been downloaded directly through the musician's website (e.g. Radiohead) so will this be rendered unplayable too?
- And also, movies/videos that I own on DVD.. would I be able to rip these onto my PC and then put these on an ipod? Or can it just take video downloaded from itunes?

Sorry these questions are so basic - I've been reading reviews on Amazon and it's raised a lot of questions!
Thanks to anyone who reads through all this and answers :)

Convert CD music, DVD movie, downlaod video/audio to iPod, you may find a iPod converter to convert these to MP4 video and MP3 audio for iPod.

I recommend you to try Daniusoft DVD to iPod Suite which I used good now. It could help you convert any DVD/video to iPod video with only three steps. Also it let you set the movie effects, crop/ trim video.
You can free download it here:

Here I found a good guide to tell you how to convert for iPod:

A family member just bought an ipod nano- I think it's like 8GB so it holds around 2000 songs.. She paid around $400 and got the receiver modulator to hook it up to car radio/home radio... Plus some other "extras" she's been downloading all her CD's to the computer and putting them on the ipod.. She also gets CD's from friends/family to "burn" as well onto the ipod... I just went to Grove City PA and at the SONY store they have a SONY version of the ipod nano for about $250 and it's around $50 or so for the accessories... The only difference is the name..? I'm thinking about going with the SONY for cost reasons... Although, I'm sure this doesn't answer your question it might help you save a little money ! good luck

itunes is a very easy program to work with. You will be able to load all your cd's into itunes very simply. When you put a cd in the drive it will ask if you want to load it. If you have trouble with the music your radiohead stuff, simply burn it to a disc using a different program, then load it on itunes from the cd. I can't help you with the video question, but I imagine it is a process similar to loading your music cd's.

download Itunes. It has an option to convert your MP3s into itune compatible and then just create a playlist and click and drag onto your ipod. Get more space... cuz you can never have enough!

well, all of these except the movie question is a yes. You can take non compable songs (which isnt likely) and convert them into ipod formatable, but you must install itunes, which is free. as for the movies, you would need an illegal program to do this.
