MY FRIEND WENT TO JAIL FOR ASSAULT. IF A PERSON SAYS --IF YOU PAY ME 500$ I WILL NOT SHOW UP TO COURT IS THAT EXTORTION WHAT SHOULD MY FRIEND TELL THE ATTORNEY

Unless the payment is for restitution it is witness tampering which is also a crime.

yes, it is extortion. If you pay it is witness tampering. He should report the incident to his lawyer and then the police.

That would be extortion. It is up to you as to what you do with it. I would tell the lawyer or judge.
