I think people love American culture, and most people who have met an American know we are good, caring people.
But I think right now there is some dislike because of recent events. After 9-11, the whole world poured out its sympathy to us. They held candlelight vigils in practically every country, including Iran and Iraq. They were behind us all the way to help us catch the perpetrators of that act.
But then we went against everyone by going into Iraq, where it was obvious there was no Osama bin Laden or anyone else we were supposedly looking for. When the world said it was a bad idea, Bush convinced us all they were pansies or terrorists. So I think we're seeing a backlash, I think people are insulted because they sympathized with us and even sent us gifts, and we turned around and acted arrogantly, said "we don't care what you think," and did it anyway. Which turned out to be a huge mess, so the world says "I told you so," and we STILL try to convince them they're wrong and things aren't so bad! That's why I think we're getting ridicule right now.

I am from the U.S.
I believe the rest of the world dislikes us.
Why? Many reasons. Some legitimate, some not. Our foreign policy is one of them, our hypocritical government is another. The Iraq war is another.
There are other reasons that people give, but they are more just stereotypes. We're fat, we're loud, we're arrogant, we're xenophobic. These are hardly legitimate criticisms.
It wouldn't bother me so much, if it weren't for the fact that from what I can see, no one really bats and eye or cares one way or the other when these things are said about my nationality. If some of the things that people generally say about Americans, they started saying about Mexicans, or the Chinese, or Pakistanis, most would be disgusted at their comments. But because it's American, that makes it okay, because it's kinda "trendy".
I know my country is hated throughout the world. I can try to change my government, but I will never change my nationality. If that isn't good enough for others, so be it.

I am American. I feel as though people hate our attitude and *********. We feel the need to be the first or best at everything so maybe thats part of the reason why people hate. America is turing into a empire, and we stomp out cultures, lands, and natural resources to fuel our super power machine; so i understand why we are hated for that reason. We are liked by some because there is a huge oppurtunity in america to become rich (or at least better off) than some would be in their original country. Our laws are somewhat fair...

Neither.
I like some Americans, I dislike others.
Can't say about the whole of them!
What I don't like is the government's foreign policy...as for the people, there are all kinds. Some are nice, some are not.
Some are likeable, some are simply hateful.

I don't feel it is right to judge all of one group as a whole.
I'm American and I judge people by how they treat me, not on what their President does which hits the news. I have the sense to know that not everyone in a country supports what their leaders do.
If someone wants to believe that I support everything GWB does, it's because they're ignorant and do not want to know me as a person.

I'm an American and I'm proud of it. I think that the people who hate us do so, largely because of our foreign policies and because of our tendency to think we're the only country in the world that matters. I think that those who admire us do so, because often they are impressed by the American movies and TV shows they see and the American music they listen to. Also, I think that by and large we Americans tend to be friendly, informal, and relaxed, and I think that some people admire us for that.

The problem you fail t realise is that Americans don't care what the rest of the world thinks and if you don't like it "Bring it" our president has a itchy trigger finger ..and he has no plans on scratching it...BOO YOW.

I'm from the UK and take each person as I find them. Do find it a little disturbing that you voted George Bush in as President though.
