Romeo & Juliet (1968)

I fell in live with this movie nearly 40 years ago, and the ending still makes me cry. Leonard Whiting and Olivia Hussey are perfection in the title roles.

Actually, everything about this film is perfect~the carefully edited play, the lush musical score by Nino Rota, the jewellike colors and tapestry-like settings, the locations for the balcony and marriage scenes, as well as other important moments, and, most of all, the wonderful cast. The music definitely sets the mood, and the Love Theme is well-known. It appears in a beautifully melancholy form, a madrigal titled "What Is a Youth?", sung during the masque where they first meet.

I think much of the sadness is that we know from the start what will happen to them, making it all the more poignant. Their one night together is their final one. Their next reunion will be in the Capulet tomb. *SIGH*WEEP*

I have to agree with A Walk To Remember and The Notebook. Both Amazing books that translated well onto screen.

Untamed Heart with Marissa Tomei and Christian Slater. I usually don't like or watch sad love movies b/c they are sappy and depressing and I hate them, but this one I actually enjoyed and I cried. That says a lot b/c I am probably one of the only women that does not like sappy romance movies.

The Notebeeok
City of Angels
and I thought Legends of The Fall as a whole was pretty tragic.

and that other person said Untamed heart and I totally agree. Cried and cried and cried and their wasn't a happy ending. Beautiful story though.
