i've worked in advertising for about 4 years, with a PR and Marketing firm before too. Didn't need past college algebra i think, maybe a little statistics and accounting, but the math wasn't bad. what do you want out of your career? If money is the most important thing, whatever you do, stay in school as long as you can. Get your masters at least, especially if you can get some one else to pay for it. :) what kind of job do you want? do you want to research stuff, schmooz people, schmooz people and sell ideas, create ideas, or organize things to make your ideas or products sell? your answer to that might help you decide an emphasis. I got a BS in Business Admin with minors in marketing and mgmt. A business degree of any kind usually works for an entry position at a company. You can make good money at anything. Money follows hard work. good luck!

You should not feel alone being in the situation that you are currently in. Advertising is pretty hard to get into. I would recommend that you really work at getting internships early. If you are a sophmore then it is not too early. There are books in the library that have ranked by sector. I cant remember the name, but i know that it is there. I would go there and get a list going of which companies you would like to work for and then get on the websites. They will have requirements for the jobs you will be competing for and that will give you a leg up when it comes to doing what it takes to get the right experience/contacts to break into advertising. good luck with school.

It was a wise man who said, "find something you love, do it every day and you will never have to work again". I wholeheartedly believe this and try to instill it in my children, however, they, like almost every other person, refuse to spend the time to make it reality.
If you hate school and don't know what you want to do, stop and decide what you love to do. It truly does not matter what it is. You can make money in anything if you work at it. But if you love it, it will never feel like work. Make your life wonderful, take some time to figure what you love to do and just do that.

why are you even in college if you have no goal or plan of your own? get out into the real world try a number of different jobs and then go to college with a realistic idea of what you want to do for the rest of your life.

Very few people actually work in the field they went to school for, so pick something that you're truly interested in and that offers the most opportunity for advancement and financial rewards.

go take your basics and just put something you think would be okay, but focus on your basics, by then, two years later you will know more about your likes and dislikes.
