Okay, so apparently people can now discriminate against tattoos and piercings and deny you an apartment or home if they don't like your body mods.

Does anyone else find it wrong that it's illegal to descriminate against gender, orientation, or race but it's okay to discriminate against modded people? Personally I find it wrong and it should be illegal, what about you guys?

Good point, I had forgotten about the discrimination against families with children. That's also nuts...either you are a good tenant or you aren't, what you look like or what age of people you have shouldn't affect getting an apartment.

Yes, I wish all kinds of unfair discrimination could be illegal, including discrimination of people with body mods. I mean, if you have tattoos and piercings, and keep your house neat and tidy, and don't hold wild parties... then of course you should not be judged by your skin. If your previous rental history is good, that is all that you should be judged on.

The rental market in Australia is SO tight, however, that landlords could discriminate on the tiniest little thing, simply because they can afford to wait until they get the "perfect" tenant, and the highest rent price. It makes it so hard for every day people...

We had to commute for 3 hours a day for 6 weeks before we were finally given a home in the area where we are studying. It was so hard... The reason no-one wanted us was because we have 4 children. Our rental history is perfect - always leave houses in immaculate condition, and always pay our rent on time. But landlords would rather wait a couple of days to get a working couple, or smaller family, than rent to a "high risk" family like us. People will always make judgments like that, especially when rental demand is very high, and landlords can afford to be choosey.

This is insane and it should be illegal! I'm assuming that the apartment managers ran a credit check on the prospective tenants, so their credit scores rather than their physical appearance should have been a more reliable indicator of whether they would make good tenants. Not only that, but what's next? Will landlords also be allowed to discriminate against people, because they're fat or just because they find them physically unattractive?

I managed apartment buildings for many years and I was not allowed to discriminate against anyone because of rece, creed, body type or body art. If you think you have been rejected because of your tattoos, I'd consult an attorney. Unless you constitute a threat to the other tenants, there's no reason why body art should be a reason to refuse you a place to live.

I don't think they should be denied residence, however, there are many things that are discriminatory in nature and not by law and have to do with housing.....for example...
Smoking
children
money
