It is true. Most names have a known meaning, especially in myths and folklore. In many ways, a name (and subsequent meaning) is part of a character's description.

Names have meanings in mythology as much as christian names do today see the link below for meanings, I am not christian though.
In ancient times words had more power and were only written by priests and scholars so seemed more powerful. First names were often not given just one name for a commoner which was more a description, fathers trade or family name, a nickname or younger could be used to denote father from son etc.
So names were generally a description of something as in Baker, Smith etc, places also had meanings like Wales meant strangers in Anglo-Saxon. Or Vortigern, the high king, meaning the great leader.
Names always have meaning otherwise what would be the point to having a name, it also prevents confusion.

In some folklore, yes.
This is a very vague question, though. Different cultures have this belief; many Native American tribes believed that one's name affected the person. If you named someone "Bear," they would act like a bear, and be strong like a bear.
I believe a lot of tribal cultures had similar superstitions; check your local library or Wikipedia for more info.

True: names have meaning down to the core. Whether it's something straightforward like 'John,' to a rooted name that has many meanings.

first name meanings can be found in an actual "babies names book" it gives the name & the meaning made up for it by the first people to give them meanings1

Names DO have meaning. Like, they were invented to mean born on a tuesday.' Thats their PURPOSE. There dont have to be myths.
