Interesting question. For elderly people, actually anyone living alone, a pet is great companionship BUT not at the animal's expense; that is, a dog who is left alone for long amounts of time, chained outside 24/7, or otherwise improperly cared for.
People with psychological problems tend to have pets but lack money or emotional well being to properly care for them.
Many times people purchase pets for themselves or children on impulse.

I think it is great to have a pet it should be necessary to have a pet unless its not going to be taken care of!
Pets bring soooooo much unconditional love and happiness that theres no way you couldnt love a pet!
They truely show so much emotions and they become a part of your family. Its great to have that feeling of knowing you are giving animal a great home, love and happy life. Dont ever miss out on the opertunity to give a pet a home or to have one. Every home should come complete with an animal!!
I personally love Dogs and Cats I have one cat and will be getting a puppy. If I could I would give every dog and cat a home! I also have 3 turtles in a back yard pond.

I think pets are important in a family. They help set a balance. Children would learn the responsibility in taking care of a living thing. A pet can be a really good friend to everyone. I like dogs.

not necessary, but a good idea usually. taking care of a pet teaches a child responsibility. it can lower blood pressure and stress levels in adults. it can be a companion for anyone. what kind of pet depends on the individual. I like most animals, but cats are my favorite.

Yeah. Dogs are actually shown to lower blood pressure and relax people. Cat are independent and nice to pet every once and a while. Guinea Pigs are like smaller dogs and love to be held.

No , I am not much of a pet person though I don't mind them , I just don't want one for myself because I don't think I would make a good pet owner . I do on occasion enjoy the pets of others so it's not a hate thing .

Yes. Especially for kids. It teaches them responsibility and compassion. Pets give unconditional love. They are great. I have 2 cats, dog, rabbit, hamster, gecko. I will always have a cat the others I can do without. They are in my home for my kids.

No. I would like to have a dog (and probably will someday), but pets are not necessary for life.

therapeutically yes because as studies proved that animals absorb negative energy from their owners but it is a great responsibility. remember taking a pet is like having a child, it needs outmost care and attention and in return your pet will be your pride and joy.
