Just like the thousands of other end-of-the-world predictions, the "prediction" about 2012 was made by a primitive, ancient civilization who had no clue about the actual workings of the cosmos.
Sadly, these predictions continue to be perpetuated by sensationalist media, all too eager to exploit the fears of the most gullible people in the 21st century.

There is no Mayan prediction for the year we know as 2012. Their calendar ends then. It has become linked to other weird "prophecies", like the ancient Sumerian myth of Nibiru, by people who make a lot of money selling books and videos to other people who just don't understand.
They are not remotely linked.

No. My calendar, from Joseph Levine & Sons, ends on October 31, 2008. Obviously, that is the end of the world, so the year 2012 is not going to happen. Levine is still around, and the Mayan civilization is not, so I would say that Levine is a lot smarter than them.

The Mayans didn't predict anything. Anyone who says they did is BSing you. They had a sophisticated calendar based on motions of Venus that has a big cycle that ends in 2012. Since their civilization died out 800 years ago, they had no need to extend their calendar.

The Mayans did not predict that anything will happen in 2012.
This is just when their old calander starts a new cycle. (just like Dec. 31, 1999 was for our calender)

What is this Mayan prediction? Where did you hear about it? Did you look it up online? Did you read about it in a book? Don't believe all you hear or read. A lot of it is just plain BS.

Yes. The last day of 2012 will happen. Then, someone will open a new calendar.

How can you believe anything that was forecast by a civilization that disappeared thousands of years ago?
