Today at the fabric store, my son wanted some of my water from my sports bottle I carry. He frequently plays with my bottle and asks for a drink (he's one year old). So I gave him some, but as always happens, it went down the wrong pipe and he coughed. And, like any person, he coughed for a while. You'd think he stopped and then he started again. So the woman working the cutting table says, "Uh oh, call the doctor! Baby has a cough!" She was trying to be cute, but then people pulled away from me. The woman with the stroller behind me in line backed up. And when I said, "Nonono, he just had some water go down the wrong pipe" no one listened and the stupid fabric cutter lady said, when I got to the front to the line, "Oh here comes the coughing baby, better call the doctor!" I mean it was as if I never said anything at all! How is that cute or friendly or appropriate? To insinuate that my child is sick or germy? Not cool at all.
And earlier in the day, a woman at the cash register where I was buying my lunch tried to take out his pacifier! I couldn't even believe it. Not only do I not let gross strangers touch him, but to touch something that was going in his mouth was just unbelievable! You think that she'd let me touch something she was about to put in her mouth? Nope. God, I hate people!

I second the whole baby sex thing. I had people tell me my son was a beautiful girl, and my daughter (wearing earrings mind you) was a handsome boy, just because she didn't have any hair for a long time, and he had long curly hair. With my third though no one has called him a girl. Probably because he has hardly any hair, and is the size of a 1 1/2 year old (at 9 months).

I also hate the comments about "wow, he's a big boy, he must not be missing any meals, what are you feeding this kid?" One time I answered the person back and said "just breastmilk". You should have seen the look on the guy's face. LOL He didn't expect that answer.

My boy was born in August and it was freaking hot out. I had people tell me I shouldn't take the baby outside without a hat on! Ok, it's 95 degrees out (105 with the humidex), he sweats when I just have a onesie on him (and that was only to keep the car seat straps from rubbing his bare skin) and you want him to have a hat on? Ya, ok, cul8r kthxby.

I've had people tell me I shouldn't use my umbrella stroller because he's too little yet he loves it more than his travel system and he does just fine in it. I strap his stuffed toy in his seatbelt with him and he's snuggled in there just fine. Even without the stuffed toy he's not falling out even if the stroller got tipped upside down, we made sure of that. I just discovered I don't have to stop and pick up his giraffe every 20 feet when it's strapped in with him.

The best though are the completely clueless ones who after hearing me talking to him and referring to myself as Mommy still ask me if he's mine.

Some people's children eh?

My "baby" is a teen now, but when he was little I took him out on a beautiful, sunny but slightly cool day (65 degrees). He was wearing a terry cloth sleeper, had a blanket, and he was always running hot and enjoyed the fresh air. Two old ladies commented as we went by about how he was going to catch a cold and how could I do that, so on and so forth. I'm still upset about it all these years later because he didn't get sick, he wasn't going to get sick, and they wrecked the moment for me, KWIM?

*lol* I hate when they ask if your baby is a boy or girl too. My dd was dressed in a frilly pink dress and a little bow headband on her head and someone asked if she was a boy or girl. I was a little sarcastic and said "no, it's a boy, I just want him crossdressing early". They left a little quickly. She had a pink carseat, and pink stroller. I mean there was no mistaking I had a girl.

We went to Yellowstone last June and I had my then six month old daughter in a stroller while we walked around. She was in a jumper, slathered in sunscreen, and wearing a sun hat. A few people walked by us and made comments along the line of "I hope you have sunscreen on that baby." I wanted to scream at them "yeah, I'm smart enough to remember the stroller, diaper bad, and sun hat, but I didn't realize I should put sunscreen on her when its clear and 80 degrees outside." I know they meant well, but it was irritating.

I HATE when other parents brag about how fast their kids develop/ed. "Oh your son is 4 months and not crawlign yet? At 4 months our little guy was learning to walk." Please! Every baby develops differently and every baby is perfect!

And my son is large for his size so everyone comments on that "what a big boy - you better be careful!

Serenty - I totally agree with you about the touching! I swear I'm going to ruffle the next person's hair that ruffles my son's!

i agree!!! people tell me my daughter is 2 big. and that i am over feeding her. when actually her doctor was a lil worried that she was not eating enough because she was only taking 4oz's of formula every 4 hours. but she is 6 months now and eating normal and about 19lbs. she is also about 25 inches tall. she is a lil on the chunky side but i kno i do NOT over feed her. and also someone asked if she was a boy or gurl, WHILE SHE WAS WEARING A PINK DRESS!!! she even has a pretty girly face. people r idiots!!!

I think as your kids get older, it's awfully rude that other people discipline your child right in front of you! I actually saw an old lady tell a little crying baby to shut up once!
