I was a spy once back in the cold war. We called ourselves junior spies. We were couriers for NSA (National Security Agency) We went by our last name only and we drove unmarked cars and lived on the economy (local apartments). We had to take a crash course in German (6 weeks) and we were not allowed to go into military posts. We were also encouraged to make friends with local criminals and prostitutes as they were the ones that could give us the most information from the street. We carried a .38 snub nose revolver in a shoulder holster and we had no Identification that would point to the Military or NSA. I was a young man, 20 yrs old and it was exciting for me and at times high terror. Now this is the part you are not going to believe. I lived in a Brothel. Yes the 'house' was on the 4th floor and the third floor was for the girls apartments. Two pick pocket criminals got me an apartment on the third floor where they lived. They had some of the girls on their string. In their world anyone that could carry a gun was someone of importance and they were playing on that. It was definitely a strange era of my life. The story is too long to tell here but I have written stories about it.

I'd want some totally innocuous and run-of-the-mill unimaginative such as Jane Smith or Sarah Jones (no offence to anyone actually called that!). Something unusual would attract attention and when you're a spy that's the last thing you want.

I'd like to be known as "shadow". As a spy, I could be in a room, but not be suspicious. However, it doesn't matter what name I take because my real name is safe with whoever I'm working with.
