Id like to ask my doctor to help me with fertility testing. I feel like something is wrong with me. I have posted before about pelvic pain issues and problems falling pregnant and I feel like I might have PCOS or PID or cysts or endometriosis. I dont want to sit and wait around for another 6 months. How long do you have to be trying to get pregnant before they will test you for stuff? What do they do in the standard testing? What should I be asking for and how should I be asking for it? Should I be insistent? The docs just tell me to go home and try get pregnant but I dont know if I am even ovulating at this point. I hardly EVER see stretchy cm, its usually lotiony or just clear, and nothing that looks like egg white. What do you have to do or go through before they will consider you for testing or try you on Clomid?

If you are under 30, a doctor will not start testing until after one year of trying. If you are over 30, they will test after 6 months.

Read the book: Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler. This book fully explains your cycles, charting and how to get pregnant. It is a great book and a must read. Go buy a basal thermometer at the drug store. You need to start charting so that you can get an accurate picture of what is happening in your cycles. This information can aid you in having sex at the correct time as well as providing your doctors with information that can lead them to figuring out what the problem is, if there is a problem. If there is a problem with your cycle you will be able to tell that through charting.

To improve the quality of your cervical mucus use preseed when you have baby sex. Preseed promotes a sperm friendly atmosphere. You insert it 10 minutes prior to having sex. http://www.preseed.com/ Or read this about Robitussin: http://www.fertilityplus.org/faq/cm.html Some women do not get egg white. The wettest cervical mucus you get is your most fertile. (I hardly get egg white. I've only seen it a few times and I have gotten pregnant twice using preseed.)

Read about PCOS here to determine if it is a possibility: http://www.inciid.org/faq.php?cat=infertility101&id=2#72

At any time you can go to the OBGYN and tell them that you are experiencing pelvic pain. They can test you for STDs and PID.

Centers vary, but the rule of thumb is under 35, 1 year; over 35, 6 mons. However, if you are experiencing symptoms other than or in addition to infertility, you deserve to have them diagnosed and adequately addressed *now.* Doing so may not only relieve your symptoms, but can also improve fertility (i.e. as with Endometriosis treatment). It sounds like your docs are being overly cavalier and ignoring your concerns, so it's time to find a new one. If you are concerned with Endo and/or pelvic pain concerns, see Dr. Andrew Cook at http://www.drcook.com in Southern Cali; he is considered a leading expert in Endo and chronic pelvic pain/infertility issues. No point in waiting around a year or so to discover that you really can't get pregnant and the cause went untreated. For other docs, check out http://groups.yahoo.com/group/EndoDocs. Good luck to you!

I actually go to a fertility center to get pregnant. I had to go thru alot of tests before my doctor would refer me to the clinic (getting tubes looked at to make sure not blocked, checking hormone levels and ovulation, checking husband out) I referred my friend to call the other day she is in the same situation as you, and they mailed her a packet and told her to come in whenever she wants. I wouldn't wait for the doctor. That go home and keep trying is crap. I had IUI done 3 times. I am pregnant now. If it is taking a while to get pregnant, ask your nearest fertility center there opinion. Look it up on the internet. I dont know where you are from, but I use Southeastern fertility. They have a nice and use full website.

Generally you have to be trying for a year without success unless there are other symptoms or signs.
