His parents gave him some candies as birhtday present. His grandparants gave him twice as many candies. And other children who attended the party ate three times as many of his candies.

Before the party he had 12 candies. His parents gave him some, but the grandparents gave twice as many. That means 1/3 of the 12 were given by the parents, 2/3 by the grandparents. (4 by the parents and 8 by the grandparents) The other children ate three times as many (I'm assuming of the parent's amount) - so they ate 4 x 3 = 12

Bummer, the boy has no candy left. But he sure is good at sharing.

Ah, I see by the other answers that I was making the assumption that the 12 candies before his birthday were the same ones that were given him by his parents and grandparents. If that assumption is wrong, then oregfiu is correct.

Assumig he already had 12 candies before his parents gave him some candies and assuming both sets of grandparents gave him twice as many candies as his parents gave him and the children gave him 3 times as many candies as he has recieved after he recieved candies from his family plus 3 times as many as he had to start with then:

12+X+2X+2X+3(5X) + 3(12) - (the eaten candies)-(the shared candies)= a belly ache for everybody!

Not to mention the possibility of someone chocking on a hard candie.

And I do hope he flossed, brushed and Listerined!

He has 0 left after his party because he has 12 candies. his grandparents gave him twice as many candies so
12x2=24
24+12=36
36=3/3 and the children ate 3/3 of his sweets so he has no sweets left at the end of his party
