A TV spinoff is a television show that takes either a character from another show, or similar plot structures and the same fictional universe, to create a new program. The true TV spinoff tends to work on the former premise, and numerous good TV spinoff examples have arisen, especially in sitcoms, from previous shows. For example, one of the most successful TV spinoff sitcoms was the show Frasier, which took the character Frasier Crane from the immensely popular show Cheers.
The new show has to be as good or better than its original show in order to be a success. Frasier was just that. Instead of simply relying on the character of Frasier, played by Kelsey Grammar, the new show boasted an incredible cast. In particular the performance of David Hyde Pierce as Frasier’s brother Niles, became one of the main reasons to watch this TV spinoff. The interplay between Frasier and Niles was excellent, accounting for numerous comic moments.
Sometimes a hugely successful show can launch a true TV spinoff that is not a success. The wildly popular sitcom Friends inspired the sitcom Joey. Unfortunately, Joey was not as tightly written or directed as Friends and quickly lost most of the original show’s audience.

a spinoff is a show that came from another show. For example Golden Palace was a spinoff of the Golden Girls. Also sometimes a spinoff show can focus on a certain character that gueststared on a show. Again using the Golden Girls, Harry Weston appeared as the neighborly doctor on that show. A few years later they made a show based on his character called Empty Nest. Angel was a spinoff of Buffy. Sometimes they work out really well as the aboved mentioned shows ( though the final 2 seasons of Angel were disappointing ) and sometimes they bomb. For example(well Golden Palace didn't do so great) the show Joey was spun from Friends. That really didn't go anywhere. Now a truley classic spinoff was of course Frasier, which came from the show Cheers.

When a television show is built upon a character or subject matter of another existing show.
Friends spawned Joey as an example.
THe TV Show "All in the Family" starring Carool O'conner, spawned 4 tv shows, which in turn spawned 2 MORE shows, for a total of six, making it the tvshow with the most Spinoffs.
Characters can also make appearances in other shows, too, though they are not spinoffs. Actor Kelsey Grammer is the only actor ever to win the Emmy for best Supporting Actor, Best GUEST Appearance and Best Actor all for playing the same character, Dr. Frasier Crane. Best Supporting for his supporting play in Cheers. Best Actor for his own SPINOFF show, Frasier and best Guest for a single time playign Dr. Crane on the show Wings. (Though not a spinoff, Wings and Cheers shared a lot of actors and situations,, making them a "crossover".)_

a spinoff is a series that gets its start from another series. it may star characters from the main show, or have a plotline similar to the original show. example: joey was a spinoff from friends. another example: family matters was a spinoff of perfect strangers. harriet worked in the building with larry in perfect strangers and that's how the two shows are tied together, but they both take place in and around chicago.
