I'll be sure to watch out for the angry snipers that are sure to take shots at me after I insult karaoke...but, yeah...I just don't see what all the fuss is about it.
What's so darn cool about it?
No wonder it's in bars, because being hammered is the only way I'd even hum a few bars.
Is the whole practice of karaoke just a bunch of insecure, vain people, looking for their five-minutes-of-fame in a local bar, where everyone is too drunk to remember anyways?
(YES, I *know* there are home karaoke machines, and that it's done at parties, etc - this changes nothing)
It just doesn't seem that fun., and even downright stupid.
Or maybe I'm not old enough (I'm 25) to 'appreciate' it yet? Karaoke seems to be a favorite among people older than I - or maybe I'm wrong?
Tell ya what, though - no matter what age, 25 or 55, I can think of much more fun things to do than making a fool of myself by singing off-key in a bar full of drunks.
Does anyone else out there share this viewpoint?

Karaoke is fun, I enjoy it. I don't do it in public often, and I realize it's not for everyone. So, if you don't enjoy it, don't go to a bar that has karaoke. I have an average voice at best, but the point for me at least, is just to have fun because I enjoy singing. It's not a talent contest. How do insecurities or vanity play a part in karaoke??? If you are insecure and/or vain wouldn't you be one of the least likely to sing in front of a bunch of strangers???

Have you ever seen a movie that the acting is so really bad?And you sit there thinking... it might.. just might get better? But it only gets worse. And so you sit there in the dark and watch it, SUFFERING for this person and you are soooooo embarrassed for this person's acting that you go into an anxiety attack? That's what I think about Karaoke! It's horrible!!

Nope sorry love, I'm 20 and think kaeoke is fantastic! Ive only done it 3 times, once on hols, once in my student bar and at a christmas party! I love watching others do it, I love the cheering, I love the boos, I love the joining in, the gammy songs, the mortification....
Well, if we all had the same opinion the world would be a dull place!

I don't get the whole karaoke thing. I'd rather be in a bar that had no music at all than watch a bunch of idiots doing karaoke. I find it blindingly annoying.

If you like to drink and you like to sing, it's a gas! I'm no fancy singer, but it's fun to move the audience with a favorite tune well sung(everyone sounds better after a few) and the applause is genuine, 'cause you won't last long if the audience doesn't like you.

Depends where you are. I visited Shanghai about 12 years ago and they take their karaoke seriously. I had a great time and they taught me how to carry some semblance of a tune without embarrassing myself.

Uh...who cares how old you are. Karoake is fun!
Fun for any age depending where you sing at. If your with a group of friends, between like 13 to 18, it's fun. Adults with adults and senior citizens with senior citizens.

LOL Some people are embarrassed to sing in front of people but there are alot of people who do go to a bar to sing in front of a crowd because they wanna let people know they have talent I think its retarded but at the same time its almost better then Jerry springer lmfao!!!!!!!!!!

first of all, the idea of reading and singing is dumb... come on, if u like singing so much, why not remember the lyrics of few songs that u really like!!!
second... NO ONE IS ACTUALLY IMPRESSED by karaoke singers...
So overall, its better NOT to karaoke!!!
