Old age is a blessing; to not grow old means to die when you're still young. I have lived long enough to have many grandchildren, a great grandson, and I hope to see some great-great grandkids. I've had such fun with my grandkids and so much love. I've learned from each one of them and I hope they have learned from me. I love life...I'll go when God calls me but until then, I'm having a good time!

I feel it is a curse. Even tho I've learned more from educating
myself additionally over the years. And from learning from the experiences either I had, or someone I've known.
Due to an accident last year which has crippled my body to
that of a much more elderly person, I now identify with those
who are unable to get around without pain. Or do many of the
things they were able to do when younger. All of my friends are complaining about Arthritus and aches and pains, but they are still much more physical than I can ever be.
In addition to what inables me to walk and stand for longer
periods of time, I also have other health issues which are
shortening my life. So I may have inherited good genes for
aging slowly, but these diseases I now have are blocking
my life span, so that I can't live as old as my mother or my
grandmother. So knowing I can go anytime, like my dad, is
a bit unnerving. I think the worst, is not leaving anything of me
behind. I didn't make my mark upon the world, like my
husband has, by painting and selling those paintings over the
years. All I can claim, is that I bore two children, that I had
not planned. And one shuns his natural family, and the other
well, let's say she does what she can out of duty to her parents. So if I suddenly leave this earth tomorrow, I have
nothing good I feel to show for my years on this earth. Oh
I've made friends laugh, and I've cared enough to be a true
friend to them, but that to me, just isn't enough. I wanted to
leave something more tangible behind. And now, I have no
clue what that might be. I guess I will have to address that
thought while I'm still here. Maybe I need a suggestion box?

I would say that it might be both. It is a blessing as most have grand kids that they can enjoy. Stories that they can tell of the past when they were growing up. They can teach other folks what all they have learned.
Then the down side of it would have to be the fact that you are not as strong as you once were. Your memory is not what it once was.
As far as sickness goes, that can strike at any age really. Any sickness, no matter what it is, can strike you even at a very young age including a new born.
The one thing that I have learned from both of my parents is, never put off tomorrow what you can do today as you never know if you will be able to do it tomorrow or not. And oh boy, I think I am about the worst on putting stuff of until tomorrow. Most of which I regret putting off.

Its a blessing - all that experience and a hint of whats really important not the things we though were - I mean there are no pockets in a shroud right that's the material world gone !
I guess the curse may be that the younger generation do not value the contribution a senior can make based on their experience - instead wars and dogma prevail and they have to hit their heads against the wall to learn that it hurts !!

It's a blessing as regards all the information you have stored over the years. The knowledge you have gained can sometimes help others BUT the curse is all the aches, pains and ills you get. Don't get me started!

I just visited a 96-year-old woman in the hospital today. She is a resident at the assisted living center I volunteer at. They found out 2 weeks ago she had cancer of the colon and she had to have emergency surgery to remove part of her colon; she now has a permanent colostomy bag. This lady has been and still continues to be an inspiration to me. She loves the Lord with all her heart and has a very positive attitude. It is a blessing to see someone so advanced in years laughing, trying to walk, and praising the Lord at her age and what she's been through.
Some people at the assisted living center have chosen to give up, this is so sad, because they still have so much to offer. Sometimes they've given up because their families have given up on them. Others, while advanced in years, are still praising the Lord and really appreciate any visitors.
So, from my experience, I would have to say that old age is definitely a blessing. They still have so much to contribute, if only more people would visit them and talk to them. God bless you!!!

Old age is not a curse. No age is a curse. We are born, we live our lives and then we die. Old age gives one, wisdom:- you have learnt and been through a lot in your lifetime, These things, enable you to give better advise, to people who need it. You are more intuitive in situations. More sensitive too, to hurting people (you should be - there are those who get bitter and twisted).
Your heart glows when you see your children marry and have children, and watch your grandchildren grow up.
You are still young at heart, even though "YOUR BODY BETRAYS YOU" But remember, your body starts it's decline from the age of 25.

It is a god-given thing. Would He be partial in his bounty?May be sometimes there are 'oohs' and 'aahas' in this age at every turn but that is the what has come up from our life-long churning. If we had removed all the cream in the butter before or during churning wherefrom can the poor milk bring butter from. No use to blame the milk for it.In fact, this age gives us a ringside seat and we can enjoy the fight of life in progress from close quarters bucking up both the fighters with equinaumity.

i think it is a blessing because you get wiser and are able to tell the next generation what not to do and for instance telling your children your mistakes so that they dont do the same thing and also getting wiser as you age is a blessing so that the human species can live on i dont think that it is a curse one bit it is part of nature everyone gets older and we can not stop the aging process
