The present does exist however it is continously renewing.

This is a legitimate question and it is not easy to answer. Time is an interval between events, it is an interval that can't be quantified with a number. There can be no doubt that the present is the only thing that exists, even allowing for the time it takes for light to reach our eyes from the closest thing near us, it was the instant that light left that surface which is the true present, that was the beginning of that event. When the light reaches your eye that event has passed into history and the next event begins. It is always, now, and it will always be that way.

its impossible to not live in the present. the present is the exact moment something is happening, an infinitely small amount of time. just because the human brain can comprehend infinity doesn't mean that we do not exist at any given moment in time.

do you ever exist in the past or the future? no. you exist in the present, the present is now at this exact moment. in the tiniest fraction of a second it is gone and it becomes the past and a new moment is the present. but you never exist in the past, you exist ALWAYS in the present.

No. I don't think so. I mean, if I drop a five pound hammer on my big toe, the pain is only transient. It's somewhere between the pain in the past and the pain in the future. And who cares about transient pain, anyway? Right?

I would suggest that whenever you have an existential problem like this, you go and get yourself a five pound hammer and drop it on your big toe. You will find that your problem will be solved in no time or at least replaced by a very impressive short term demonstration of what not having trivial existential problems feels like. You can then take that experience and go from there.

more of a philosophy question... but i can see why you put it here.

the present is as real as the past or the future or any other point in time.

however we can rarely have any direct information of the past or future, and during the present, any observation we make takes time to make, so we can NEVER have any direct information about the present. in that sense, it doesn't exist except as a fleeting thought which as soon as it is conceived, it is past its own time.

the present exists in the same way imagination does. it is an idea which we take as a basic tenant of our existence which is never directly accessible but everyone agrees that its there.

I think therefore I am.

I am presently thinking therefore the present exists.
