Depends on what you are talking about. If your survival is at stake, you may find yourself asking forgiveness because you had to do what you had to do, regardless of outcome. If you are talking about being moral and upholding promises like your marriage vows then you better stick with the permission department unless you either don't care or believe you'll get away with it. I believe that honesty is the best policy unless you are dealing with a snake. That means, while in the presence of someone who will definitely screw you over (far worse than you could hope to protect yourself from or do to them) you may as well lie and lie and lie. Sometimes you have to in order to take care of yourself or family. Need and example? Take a long look at the welfare system and families in need. It's a catch 22 and I've seen many that, if they didn't lie, they would be out of a home and starving in the street. So what do you do? Hope this helps a little.

For what? This makes a big difference.Ask if you can kiss someone or just ask for forgiveness after? Trim your neighbors shrubs and then ask for forgiveness when you find out that they died because it wasn't the right time to trim them? It shouldn't matter how old you are,if there is another party involved,it is always better to ask opinions if not permission first. This way you don't step on someones toes unduly.Another way to think about it is to ask yourself , if someone did this to me how would I feel about it?

I think I'd ask for forgiveness for something I've done before I ask someone permission to do something...I mean, think about it.
Bob: Hey, Mom, can I go to the movies today?
Mom: No, Bob. Sorry. I don't think you deserve it after what you've done.
Bob: Oh, I'm sorry, Mom. I really didn't MEAN to throw the cat out the window...can you forgive me?
Mom: Aw, sure. Why not. I mean, it you REALLY didn't mean to...
Bob: So...can I go to the movies?
See, in this situation, the mom;s going to feel like her son is only asking for forgiveness because he wants to go to the movies.
So, yeah. I really think it's better to ask forgiveness first. It's just polite.

In a contentious situation, it is considerate to ask permission. A reasonable person would always be interested in your opinion, even if it differs from their view, after all we are not always right in our opinion. One might need to ask forgiveness if it was an act, but not if it was an opinion.

We are strongest when we are at our weakest. Only when we reach a point of great stress do we discover how much resilience we truly have. You may feel you are handling a situation badly. Given the circumstances, though, you could be expected to fair far worse. Don't criticise yourself for alleged failings. Celebrate for doing so well in such an adverse climate. You are about to discover that a brave step has been far more successful than you dared hope.

Well, as the saying goes: It is easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

hello,,not enough information available. If you say you forced sex onto a woman because you did not want to be rejected only to say you are sorry afterwards then the answer is NO! If you take something from your neighbor thinking you are borrowing it and then say sorry for not asking, the choice of accepting the apology or calling the police is entirely up to your neighbor.

If your asking for forgiveness, then that means that you did something wrong.
If your asking for permission, then that means your dependant on someone else.
I'd rather be free and wrong than somebodies b.

It depends on who your dealing with. Especially when dealing with the local government it is easier to say I'm sorry that it is to get permission.
