etiquette is the study and practice of manners. it is the formal term for it. like you can take an 'etiquette class'. it is not originally an English word, which is why it might look strange. the basic idea of etiquette, or good manners, is respect for others. originally it was also a way for members of higher classes to show their status, but now it can apply to anyone and is a way of showing that you have respect for other people and want to make them feel comfortable or at least, not uncomfortable.
