I am hearing all about planets alignment and such according to the "Mayan Calendar". I read quite a bit into this on a daily basis and it isn't the planets alignment that the mayans predict in 2012...which would explain the mix up of it actually happening in 2010, that is going to be the earths doom (NOT)...it's the alignment of the galaxy that lies between two star coordinates and the sun in our solar system that is supposed to off balance all the planets gravitational pulls and magnetic inner earth bars, turning our North into South and so fourth. However, according to mayan past theorizing, the date 11, 11, 11, 11, 11 etc. is not and could not ever really be December 21st 2012 for two very good reasons. 1) Mayans ended every month on the 20th and never the 21st. 2) that date 11 11 11 11 11 etc., was prerecorded already in their calandar..it is August 15th 1600 or so more before christ.(BC) so there is no way it could be 2012. It is merely an end to a 5000 year old calendar.

You're correct at the end there, it's just the end of the calendar.
I'm not sure about the rest, though, because it's unclear whether you're trying to debunk the whole thing, or you could be suggesting that there's credence in it and the date has just been interpreted incorrectly. I'm going for the first one because of your "NOT".

This Mayan end-of-the-world hoax is becoming more and more confusing.
The Mayan 'years' always end/begin with the December solstice which is either the 20th or the 21st (in our calendar) depending on the year.
The alignment that was used by them to mark the end of the present Long Count is the one where the position of the Sun at December solstice is the closest to the direction of the centre of our Galaxy. However, the 'alignment' is still 5.5607 degrees off (and they would have known that, at least to the nearest degree). On previous and following years, the position of the December solstice only varies by 5" per year.
Therefore, on December solstice 2011, the alignment will only be 0.02% off that of 2012.
In 2011, the alignment will be off by 5.5620 degrees. How will the forces of nature know that they should wait another year for a 0.02% improvement? How will they know that 5.5607 (in 2012) is the best they can hope for and that in 2013, we'll be back above 5.5619 degrees?
-----
Not only the Mayans did NOT predict an alignment of planets (as you correctly say), but there will not be anything even remotely looking like a major planetary alignement around that date, or at any time in the near future.
Also, the fact that the Sun's December solstice is 5.5607 degrees away from the direction of the Galactic centre will not cause a flip of the Sun's magnetic polarity (the flips occur every 11 years or so, with one going on now and the next one in 2018 or thereabouts).
As for the Earth's magnetic flip, it has already begun and it is a very slow process, taking a few centuries.
So, you are right. This is merely the end of a period in a calendar. It is a bit like December 31, 1999 in our calendar (remember Y2k when all our computer blew up and we all died?).

You post gives some hint of how complicated the Mayan calendar is and how foolish people are when they say it predicts this or that simple thing. They are merely repeating stories that have been passed from person to person, with additional inaccuracies being added each time, until the whole 2012 Mayan calendar thing has become a kind of urban myth.

The planets in alignment is not going to cause the Mayan end in 2012, that was the date of the universe coming apart by their calender. Their numbering system had limits and that was as far as their dating system could go.

As i recall the biggest alignment was on 5 may 2000 ( all planets in alignment) and nothing happened.
The next really big one of planets (not putting Jupiter and Saturn alone) will be about 20000 years from now.
So stop worrying about those story of the end of the world, good for religious freaks like J and A etc etc
Live do not spoil your life with unnecessary worries, the day you die that was your day.

Can you tell me why so many people like to appear as nutcases on a public forum like this? Where is the attraction of being made fun off?
