FDR as opposed to GWB is the difference between competence and incompetence, just war versus unjust war, great president versus abject failure. We'd be part of the Japanese/German empire/reich if Bush had been president during WW II.

In part, to help spend the country out of the Great Depression.
But, mainly, because America was attacked, and, Americans, even in malaise of the Great Depression, still had enough self-respect to be outraged by the slaughter of thier fellow citizens.

The USA wasn't full of mewling bleeding hearts that wanted our troops prosecuted for doing their jobs in those days.
Everyone pulled together and supported achieving the victory, rather than trying to undermine and discredit their government like we have today.
Our withdrawal hinges upon the Iraqi's being able to do for themselves. That was always the plan.

First of all ,we didn't fight with kid gloves on. FDR also rounded up Japanese Americans (talk about human rights abuse). He suppressed the media,spied on people,locked up dissenters and after he passed away,Truman dropped 2 A bombs on Japan. Could you imagine the left today with their whining..
